In this interview, KMO and I explore the intricacies of the Dune universe, and discuss how the characters and drama reflect enduring psychological and political truths today.
Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel Dune became one of the most popular science fiction books ever written. Dune’s analogies to oil economies and fascist governments, and the political intrigues which pitted ego-centric power-gods, conformist fanatics, and Integral realists (all with paranormal abilities) captured the imaginations of many of us who came of age in the 60’s. The book still astounds and informs us fifty-nine years later.
